Synopsis.

On a trip to Greece following a heartbreak, Lauren Freed encounters the Council of Nike, a collective of powerful women throughout history. They give Lauren the amulet of Winged Victory so she can act as their agent in the world. The amulet grants Winged Victory power through the collective strength of women, giving her the ability to fly, superstrength, and expertise with ancient weaponry, particularly the sword.

Winged Victory becomes a superhero in Astro City, the city with the highest population of superheroes in the world, and also creates a series of schools called Samothrace that teach abused women life skills to get back on their feet, along with self-defense. She becomes a controversial figure, but eventually joins the Honor Guard (the most prestigious and respected team of superheroes in Astro City).

Eventually, her enemies try to take her down by using her tendency towards secrecy against her, causing her to re-evaluate how cut off from the world she’s allowed herself to become. Samothrace was eventually opened to all genders and Lauren began to devote time to her life outside of Winged Victory.
